Kinas anstrengelser i Nordkorea bærer frugt

30 års kinesiske anstrengelser for at vise Nordkorea fortræffelighederne ved økonomisk udvikling ser ud til omsider at have båret frugt. Det kan måske bidrage til, at Kinas forstokkede og atombevæbnede nabo bliver mere tilregnelig.
 
Tredje generation af Nordkoreas lukkede ledelse, den unge Kim Jung-un, har gennem sin onkel aftalt med Kina i grænseområdet mellem de to lande at oprette tre udviklingszoner, med blandt andet tekstilindustri, IT og turisme.
 
Orientering spurgte Geir Helgesen, leder ved Institut for Asienstudier, om hvorfor det først sker nu.

"Beggars of Lahore" is a journey into the streets of Lahore, Pakistan's second largest city and cultural hub to discover what compels the beggars to beg and what measures have been placed by the Government and Non Governmental Organisations to assist the beggars.

The documentary examines the political, social, religious, economic reasons for begging as well as the growth of the beggar's mafia including case studies of beggars and interviews Cricketer/Politician Imran Khan, Advocate/Human Rights activist Hina Jilani, Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi amongst many others from both the public and private sphere as well as the general public.

udFORSK ASIEN! - Forskningensdøgn

 

Over to dage (den 28. og 29. april) afholdt Det Samfundsvidenskabelige Fakultetsbibliotek Forskningens Døgn sammen med NIAS, ADI og KU’s Samfundsvidenskabelige Fakultet. 60 mennesker blev guidet rundt til forskellige oplæg om Asien i bibliotekets kreativt udsmykkede gange, hvor forskning til lejligheden blev formidlet, så alle fra gymnasieelever til den interesserede borger kunne være med. Asiatiske forfriskninger og live musik spillet på shakuhachi af forsker og musiker Kiku Day bidrog til helhedsoplevelsen.

Giao Xingjian: Guest lecture at NIAS

Guest Lecture by Gao Xingjian, Nobel Prize winner in Literature: Literature and IdeologyGao Xingjian, born January 4, 1940 in Ganzhou (Jiangxi province) in eastern China, is today a French citizen. ;Writer of prose, translator, dramatist, director, critic and artist. Gao Xingjian grew up during the aftermath of the Japanese invasion, his father was a bank official and his mother an amateur actress, who stimulated the young Gao's interest in the theatre and writing.
