Conference 2020

The Seventh Sino-Nordic Gender Studies Network Conference will be held in China in 2020 as a GLOBAL Sino-Nordic Gender Studies Network Conference.

In recognition of the way in which the conference series has become increasingly global in terms of both content and participation from all over the world the next conference – scheduled for 2020 and to be held in China – will be convened under the heading GLOBAL Sino-Nordic Gender Studies Network Conference.

At the 6th conference ‘Age, Agency, Ambiguity – gender and generation in times of change’ keynote speakers and paper presenters not only addressed issues of gender and generation academically. They also embodied generational changes that are taking place in the choice of research topics, and research approaches as well as in their very positionalities as global scholars.

Hosted by Professor Harriet Bjerrum Nielsen and the Centre for Gender Research at the University of Oslo, the conference was held 27-30 August 2017 as the  6th Sino-Nordic Gender Studies Network Conference. One hundred and forty participants from universities and organizations from twenty-four countries gave keynote speeches, presented papers and attended as observer-participants.

The conference consolidated developments that have been taking place over the course of fifteen years since the first conference was held at Fudan University in Shanghai in 2002. The conference series that started out as meetings between gender studies scholars from the People’s Republic of China and the Nordic countries has become global in terms of the issues that are addressed, the manner in which they are addressed, and the scholars who attend the conferences.
